Last year MLB came up with City Connect Jerseys for 7 teams, and again this year was 7 teams. Gary and I recently broke down our options of the MLB City Connect Jersey in order of our favorite to least favorite. The teams that have released a city connect jersey are: Colorado Rockies, Chicago White Sox, Miami Marlins, Washington Nationals, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
My MLB City Connect Jersey Selections
Chicago Cubs – I am not Cubs fan, and my husband will be mad when he reads this being a Brewers fan. I think the Cubs did amazing with the Wrigleyville. I think the Cubs did a great job of thinking about the community.
Kansas City Royals – I really like what the Royals did with their MLB city connect jerseys. Kansas City has so many great memories. I love the fountains in the outfield and the crown as the scoreboard/videoboard. It’s also one of the first baseball games I went with Gary. It was snuggie night and we tailgated in our little beatup car with subway sandwiches. When I think of this memory it makes me think how far we have came together.
Washington Nationals – Another team that really took to heart the meaning of the MLB City Connect jerseys. There are a couple of ways they could have gone but I am glad that they didn’t go political. The color combination and the design were amazing.
Houston Astros – How could they have NOT done something space-related. I think the color and font were amazing.
Chicago White Sox – Who doesn’t love Black & White? Who doesn’t love pinstripes in baseball? The White Sox did a great job with the Southside city connect jerseys.
Boston Red Sox – I placed this one higher than the others because I love the meaning behind it. They were paying tribute to the Boston Marathon.
Arizona Diamondbacks – I love the color combination because it does represent Arizona. I don’t love that it was in Spanish for snakes. I do get they were acknowledging the Hispanic community, but I think they could have come up with something different.
Colorado Rockies – I love the color but I feel like an alternate jersey. They didn’t change the name, but I also I don’t know what I would have picked inside of the Rockies.
Milwaukee Brewers – I was really hoping that Milwaukee would do something different. We went to Milwaukee in May. While I was researching things to do I learned so much about the city of Milwaukee. I was really hoping they would do something different because people know them as the Brew Crew. Milwaukee should have done something to showcase the city more. I learned that there are several festivals in MKE.
Los Angeles Angels – Honestly I go back and forth on this one. At first glance, I wasn’t a fan because I really wanted to see something like the Chicago teams. I know it’s the team but it’s also different. Now when I look at it it doesn’t bother me. It reminds of Angels in the Outfield. I also want to like the diamond with the number on the inside, but I think it’s out of place.
Los Angeles Dodgers – I wanted to like the Dodgers jersey. Before I was a Braves fan, I was a Dodgers fan. The history that is also associated with the Dodgers is too iconic NOT to love. Blue is my favorite color and I actually like the all blue, but I wish there was something different. I don’t know what I want there to be but I do.
San Francisco Giants – I wanted to see more color changes but I don’t love the Golden Gate Bridge. I’m not sure what I wanted out of the Giants but I don’t love this one. I can’t explain it.
Miami Marlins – I don’t know how to explain my feelings on this jersey. I really like the red color and I am obsessed with pinstripe. But I just don’t think anything Miami or Marlins.
San Diego Padres – When I first saw the jersey, I thought Miami Vice. I didn’t think anything SD or Padres. Although I really love pink and green (hey DZ) but I just don’t like this jersey FOR San Diego.
Husband Pick
**We are doing his while we are driving on our baseball weekend road trip. I am writing it as he is talking. I treated this like an interview and would ask questions for follow up information.
Milwaukee Brewers – He wanted to state he is picking the Brewers because they covered history, city, tailgating (best tailgating in MLB according to him). Not because he is a Brewers fan. He is not a big fan of the hat, but everything else he loves.
Los Angeles Angels – Seemed like a new design but still incorporating when they were the California Angels. It has the Southern California surfer vibe.
Kansas City Royals – The color scheme is PERFECT. He loves how they incorporated the fountains into the KC. The crown is placed perfectly in the design. The jerseys are clean and nice, and they did a great job connecting everything together.
Washington Nationals – He really loved the design and the dark color that works well with the Cherry Blossoms. He likes the clean and simple look.
Houston Astros – I love the color scheme because you know it’s the Astros by just the color. The logo space city fits with the city. One of his favorite hats with the city connect series.
Chicago White Sox – This one is growing on him. When they first came out, he thought it looked a little bland. He always liked that the they went with the Southside. The look has grown on him as he has watched White Sox baseball this year. In May the looked started to grow on him as he was watching the game. Michael Kopech is a big reason that this city connect has grown on him. Kopech was wearing white shoes which make the white pinstripe come out more. He always loves a pinstripe uniform.
Arizona Diamondbacks – The all cream looks pretty cool. The name describes the team and city very well. The DBacks made a true connection in connecting with the city as a whole by changing the name into something Hispanic.
Chicago Cubs – (I am shocked by this one.) As much as it pains him to say this, he thinks they did a good job with the color scheme, the look and connecting with the city. Wrigleyville is a whole experience when you come to the game. This is probably his favorite hat of all the city connect teams so far.
**These are all middle of the road ones that aren’t in any specific order. They didn’t do anything bad but it’s not eye catching.
San Francisco Giants – Not a big fan of the G with the Golden Gate Bridge thinks more could have done. It’s not bad or good. The Giants played it safe with the theme. There is so much more to SF than the Bridge. Not sure what he wanted to see but living near to SF and being there a few times thinks there could have been something different.
Colorado Rockies – Mountains across the chest is pretty cool. The hat was cool to represent the state. Thinks this jersey is a scaled down version of the futures jersey. (For baseball fans, this is not a futures jersey of up and coming players, but what would the Rockies look like in the future.)
San Diego – He doesn’t think it is bad, but there is no connection. He knows the color combination was to describe the SD sunset. Not a huge fan of the green sleeves. Not bad but also not good.
**These are ones that he does not like.
Los Angeles Dodgers – The all blue makes them look like smurfs. Dodgers took a very lazy approach to the City Connect. They could have kept the blue, but incorporate something LA or historic to the jerseys.
Boston Red Sox – I like that the incorporated the Boston Marathon with their jerseys. The color scheme makes me think of UCLA Bruins.
Miami Marlins – This is his least favorite team. The jerseys are hideous. He doesn’t think any Miami or Marlins when looking at the jerseys.
