HAPPY NEW YEAR!! I am not one for New Year, New Me. I think we can set goals and change anytime. Also Lara Casey said it best, “There is nothing magical about January 1.” I have been setting goals and breaking down things for as long as I can remember. I remember breaking down a timeline for a paper that was due in college. Each month was broken down into something that I needed to accomplish for my final paper. It would stress me out to wait until the last minute.
I am the same way with goals. I love setting goals and reaching goals. Currently I am working on setting the goal, reaching said goal, enjoying and celebrating that goal before moving on to the next. In the past I was a serial goal setter just for the sake of goal setting and that feeling of hitting that goal. That feeling never really stays though or feels as good as I thought it would because I was also reaching for the next best thing! I would also see others set goals, and think I needed to set that same goal.
Before I talk about my goals for January, lets recap my December and 2021 goals. In December, I didn’t use my Powersheets because I wanted to focus on hitting everything I wanted in 2021. I had a lot on my plate with moving to a new area, new job, getting settled, etc. One of my big goals for 2021 was to get rid of 1011 things. That number is half of 2021, no reason really except I wanted to get rid of things because I knew we would be moving in November. I beat that goal in April, so I extended it to 2021 things. I bet that goal in August when we start planning to move to Peoria, IL. The total number of things I ended up throwing away, donating or reselling was 2,553. Moving halfway across the country and taking only what can fit in your cars was a big help on eliminating things.
I was inconsistent on doing my other goals in 2021 because because I wasn’t in the right headspace for them. I did them only when I was in the right headspace. To be honest I let a lot of other factors play a part in my goals. I also put a lot of time in working my full and part time jobs. I was consumed with making money, and enjoying the time that I had. December was a great time for reflection on the past and how I want to change for the future.
