When I ran the Giants Race it was both virtual and in person. It involved each of the San Francisco Giants minor league teams with the final race being at the MLB Stadium. The reason I ran this is because I saw the medals and thought they were so cute. I’m not a San Francisco Giants fan, but I am a baseball fan, and who doesn’t love medals. Plus, I needed a reason to get out of the house and move because it was when the world was shut down.
The Giants Race was really fun to do because it got me excited about running again. I have always loved to run but I have a very up and down relationship with cardio. When I am constant it is good, but mentally I don’t pace myself. I think I can just pick up where I left off and it won’t
Scottsdale Giants Race
The Scottsdale race starts in AZ, just like the players start their MLB career. This race started during spring training in Feb 2020. Fun Fact: This race was Feb 29, 2020. This race was done virtually as a 5k. For this race since it was virtual, they provided a music playlist for the race and a bunch of other things to make it feel less virtual. (it’s been a few years since the race and I don’t remember.)
San Jose Giants
The San Jose Giants Race was a 5k or 5 mile in June 2020. I chose the 5k. San Jose Giants is the Single-A baseball team for the Giants. This was the 9th year that they have hosted this event. Part of the price of the race included a ticket for that night’s game. The cool thing about having a race at a stadium is most of the time you finish on the field. This race was no different, the end was home plate.
Sacramento River Cats
This is the Triple-A team for the Giants in April 2020. The race could either be a 5k or 10k. Just like the other races it finished at home plate. Since the race was in person, runners got the medal, t-shirt, and other swag. Since I was running virtually, they did a lot with trying to include us in all the races.
San Francisco Giants
When I ran it, it was the 14th annual which I had no idea. The race could be ran as 5k, 10k, and half marathon. This race could be done in person or virtually. If I remember correctly, I think they had a limited number of spots. Like all the other races, it finished on the field. There was a health expo the day before and after the race. No ticket was included in the price of the race, but they did over a buy one, get one for that weekend.
Overall
I didn’t receive my medals until the end of all the races.
