Four Friday Favorites is 4 favorite things on a different topic each month. Since it’s March and nicer weather is supposed to be coming soon which means I’ll be out traveling more. I do not like the cold weather and hate driving in bad weather so I don’t do as much traveling.
I could probably think of more than 4 things that are my favorite about springtime. It’s just one of my favorite times.
Tulip Time
Tulips are my all-time favorite flowers. If there are places nearby where I can see rows and rows of tulips, count me already there. Now that I am back in the Midwest, I am close to 2 places that have Tulip Time – Pella, Iowa, and Holland, Michigan. I have been to Pella’s Tulip Time several times and each time it gets better. There are so many types of tulips and they are all so pretty. I could spend all looking and taking pictures of tulips. I have no idea when or why tulips are my favorite flowers but I don’t remember liking anything else.
Baseball Season
Baseball has been a big part of my adult life. I worked for a minor-league baseball team after college and thought that was what I wanted to do with my life. There was a point in my life when I could sit and watch baseball all. It’s on my bucket list to go to the College World Series in Omaha because I haven’t been to the new stadium yet.
Decluttering
I love the minimalistic lifestyle. It is something that I want to work towards more this year. I want to live with less, and one day be able to live in my car/RV. Every couple of years, I set a goal to get rid of a certain number of items. This year the goal is 1600 items from September 2023 to December 2024. I am counting everything that I am getting rid of, and I want to implement a one-in/one-out lifestyle. Where if I buy something that means I have to get rid of something when I get home. I did this a few years ago and it worked for a while then I got lazy.
Hiking (& Seeing the Trees)
I can’t wait to get out and hike more. I have saved so many hikes that I found during the winter. There are two places that I am looking forward to the most – Kinley Park and Wildlife Prairie Park. Kinley Park has 6-8 trails and they are all named after things from the Wizard of Oz. Wildlife Prairie Park has several trails I haven’t hiked before but it has been on my list of things to do since moving to Peoria.
Now to the trees, this past 12-18 months has been a year of unlearning and relearning things about myself. I have some of the best thoughts when hiking or sitting and journaling for a little bit. During the winter the trees are bare and sometimes not the greatest to look at but still there nonetheless. Then during the spring, the trees start to grow again. It’s the reminder that just because nothing looks like it is happening doesn’t mean there isn’t anything happening.
