Happy January! It’s the 4th Friday of the month, so another round of 4 Friday favorites. This month since it’s the start of the new year, I wanted to 4 habits I want to accomplish. I love creating and setting goals. It’s one of my favorite things to do because I’m a planner. Being able to write everything out, the steps, the deadlines, etc is just the best thing ever. (i know, I’m weird but I love it.)
Lately, I have been really good at writing out my goals and things I want to accomplish but my follow-through has straight-up sucked! Some of the goals were a little lofty and others didn’t resonate with me anymore. Most of my goals or plans this year are about creating a routine or foundation.
Wake Up Between 5:15a-5:45a Everyday
I used to be a morning person. I still am to a degree, but I am not as good about getting up as I used to be. The range between 5:15-5:45a is because I do better with ranges over specific times or numbers. If my goal was to wake up at 5:15a every day but I work up at 6a, my brain thinks I failed. And it just sets my whole day in a negative headspace. So if I have a range, it is less rigid and allows for flexibility and grace.
My goal is to wake up at least an hour before I start work. I want to be able to do my morning routine and not feel so rushed. Again if I get behind schedule, it messes with my mind and could spiral the rest of my day. I would feel like I could never catch up or get ahead or skip things in my morning routine.
Have A Workout Routine
The goal is to work out 5 times a week. I have really struggled with a finding workout program that I do consistently. My problem is I’m picky (and I like cardio) and I don’t like lifting weights. I also don’t like timed workouts like HIIT. I want to count my reps. Another issue is my ADHD, when I grab my phone to see what’s next I’ll change the song which leads to opening probably Instagram and scrolling. It’s a struggle to stay focused.
Running has also been something I have enjoyed doing, but I am nowhere as consistent as I used to be. I really want to get back into it and run some races. There are a lot of races that I would like to run while living back in the Midwest.
Read 25 Books
This is the initial goal but I have already read 16 books this month. I have never (or it’s been a VERY long time) since I have read that much in a month. I’m thinking about upping the amount to 50 but I’m going to think about it more. I have also created a bingo reading board as a way to stay motivated and read different books. I am most excited about reading a classic, and I want to read Little Women.
Get Organized
I want to be organized. I want my whole to be organized. There are notebooks and notes all over my desk and it’s giving me the worst type of anxiety. I go through this all the time whether I want a paper planner, digital planner, or notion calendar. I go round and round on this topic all the time. The “perfect” planner does not exist for me – probably I don’t even know what I want.
What are you goals for 2024?
