Things To Do In Modesto California

Spread the love

I have had the opportunity to live in several different places because of baseball life. Each place I have lived I try to do as much as possible because I never know when I am going to leave or if I am going to come back. When people find out I just moved here it’s usually responded with “Why? There’s nothing to do here.” I really don’t buy that excuse. I think there is something to do everywhere. Sometimes you have to look hard for it but with an open mind there is always something going on in any city. There are so many things to do in Modesto California, you just have to look and be open to trying new things.

This list is in no particular order. This is a list of things that I found fun to do while living in Modesto. Modesto is about 2 1/2 hours east from San Francisco, and an hour south of Sacramento. It was a perfect place to live because we could travel so many places within the day time frame. California has so many things to do you’ll never see it all. I create a post of other places to visit in California.

Murals

One of my favorite things do in Modesto California is walking around looking at the murals. One year they had a festival where tons of different artists came in and did part of a wall. It was so much fun because they were all within walking distance. It gave us the opportunity to walk around downtown Modesto which is something that I haven’t done. I don’t know why or where it came from, but I have always had an obsession with murals. Modesto created a website to shows where all the murals are located. One of my favorite is the peacock feathers.

Modesto Arch

This was one of the first things that I wanted to see when I moved to Modesto. I went 2 times once during the day and another with the lights. I personally like it better during the day. The Modesto Arch was initially built in 1912, and restored in 2010. The arch has the city slogan “Water. Wealth. Contentment. Health.

Modesto Nuts Game

Obviously there was going to be a baseball game on this list of things to do in Modesto California. I mean, it was the reason I moved to Modesto in the first place. This stadium is a basic baseball stadium. There’s not a lot frills to this stadium but I think that is part of the charm. The Modesto Nuts are the Single A affiliate with the Seattle Mariners. Minor League Baseball is by far my favorite sport because you get see guys before they make to the majors. While I was in Modesto, I got to see a lot of guys that are now on the Seattle Mariners like Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Logan Gilbert.

Graffiti Cruise Route

The movie American Graffiti was filmed in Modesto. There is a walking tour around downtown Modesto, but we never got around to do it. There was a driving tour that we did when my parents visited. I don’t watch a lot of movies, but my parents had a good time. There is also Graffiti weekend in Modesto where tons of vintage and new cars come by. I never went because I’m not really into cars.

Brewery

There are so many different breweries in Modesto. One of our favorite was Contentment Brewery. We went there a lot because it was right down the street from our place. They have a Hazy IPA that is so good. We usually get that every time. When we first moved to Modesto we went to Persuasion Brewing. When we were there they didn’t have their own beers yet. They had a lot of beers from breweries around the area. Some from the Bay Area that were tough to get. When the keg tapped that was the end of it. They put a new beer in its place. They also had cans that you can take home from a variety of breweries.

California is a hot spot for breweries. There is always a brewery popping up. A few breweries that aren’t in Modesto that I love that are close by are: Blaker and Dying Breed. We went to Blaker more times then I can remember. They always had a good beer and food. I have so many AMAZING memories at Blaker. Dust Bowl is also a popular brewery near by. Everyone said we should visit if we love breweries. The food was so good, but the beer was average.

Modesto was a place that we have lived the longest since we have been married. There were times that I loved living in Modesto, and times that I wanted to leave. I can say there was never a dull moment living in Modesto. There is always something going on in Modesto, Ceres, Turlock, Oakdale, and Manteca.

Time: 5:30p-9:30p

We got there around 6:30pm, and didn’t leave until 9:15pm. The website says the walk will take about an hour, but you can go at your own pace. There are so many lanterns in each animal exhibit.

We started going through the Asian Trail, there was year of animals. The Africa section was my favorite, but I am not going to tell you why. But it was a nice surprise, and I was way too excited.

There were hands on activities throughout the zoo, but by the time we got to some of the areas it was closed.
-make your lantern
-paint rocks to be placed around the zoo
-tattoos
-music each night

What are your “musts” when traveling? Let me k What are your “musts” when traveling? Let me know in the comments!

These are the things I always have when I travel: (arrow down)

1. Spare credit card/bank card - I typically bring this, but before my last trip my regular bank card got hacked. Now I make sure to always have 2 cards with me.
2. Portable charge/power banks - I have a charger that I keep in my car all the time. It's a 4 in 1 charger, but I also have portable charge that I keep in my bag. It has come in handy more times that I can count for me and other people.
3. Reusable water bottle - I have my Stanley when I am driving. While I am hiking I use either a water bladder or a hydroflask.
4. Reusable Bags - My favorite is the Mary Kay roll up bag. It has 4 plastic bags that holds everything I need for my morning/evening routine and shower time.
5. Books - I will most always have a physical book along with my kindle app. I love to read. During my hikes I stop throughout for snacks and reading.
6. Wet Wipes - My favorite is HyperGo because they have so many different scents. They are also 12x12 so usually 1 works for the whole body.
